Herbal and Non Food Recipes
Toner for Dry Complextion
2 Ounces Aloe Vera Gel
2 Ounces Orange Blossom Water
1 Teaspoon Vinegar
6 Drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
4 Drops Sandlewood Essential Oil
1 Drop Chamomile Essential Oil
1 Drop Jasmine Essential Oil
800 IU Vitamin E Oil
OR
2 400 IU Vitamin E Capsules
Combine ingredients (if using vitamin E capsules, pop them open, and squeeze the oil into the mixture). Shake before using. This toner can also be used as an aftershave.


Cleanser for a Dry Complextion
2 Ounces Aloe Vera Gel
1 Teaspoon Vegetable Oil
1 Teaspoon Glycerine
1/2 Teaspoon Grapeseed Extract
8 Drops Sandlewood Essential Oil
4 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Blend the ingredients. Shake well before each use. Apply with a cotton ball, then rinse with warm water. Gently pat face dry.


Orange Flower Cleansing Cream
2 tablespoons soy oil
2 tablespoons almond oil
1 ounce cocoa butter
1 tablespoon beeswax
2 tablespoons orange flower water
1/8 teaspoon borax
5 drops essential oil of neroli
Mix and warm the oils. Melt the cocoa butter and stir it into the oils. Melt the beeswax, then beat it into the oil mixture, a little at a time.
Warm the orange flower water and dissolve the borax in it. Beat this into the main mixture. Leave to thicken and cool.
As the mixture starts to thicken, stir in the essention oil. Once cool, spoon into prepared jars and label. For dry and normal skin.


Chamomile Cleansing Milk
1/2 cup Half and Half
2 tablespoons Chamomile flowers, fresh or dried
Heat together in a double boiler for 30 minutes. Do not let half and half boil or form a skin. Leave to infuse 2 hours, then strain. Keep refrigerated and use within one week. For dry and sensitive skin.


Buttermilk and Fennel Cleansing Milk
1/2 cup Buttermilk
2 tablespoons Fennel seed, crushed
Gently heat the milk and crushed seed together in a double boiler for 30 minutes.
Leave to stand and infuse for 2 hours. Strain, bottle, refrigerate and use within one week. For oily skin.


911 Emergency Hair Treatment
2 Tablespoons Sesame Oil
1 Large Egg Yolk
1 Teaspoon Mayonnaise
1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
Mix all ingredients in a blender until they reach a creamy consistency. After thoroughly washing hair with a deep-cleansing shampoo, towel-blot, then distribute mixture evenly onto hair; wrap head completely with aluminum foil to retain heat. Leave on 30 minutes. Remove foil; wash hair again with deep-cleansing shampoo until all the mixture is removed. Should be done about once a month.


Caribbean Rum Conditioner
3 Tablespoons Rum
1 Large Egg
Whisk together egg and rum. After shampooing, pour mixture onto hair and leave on 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse well with the coolest water you can stand, for extra shine.


Creme Bath Oil Soak
3 Large Eggs
1/2 Cup Yogurt
1/4 Cup Witch Hazel
1 Tablespoon Witch Hazel
2 Tablespoons Melted butter
1/4 Cup Corn Oil
1 Teaspoon Corn Oil
1 3/4 Cups Milk
1 Teaspoon Cider vinegar
1 Cup Peach Juice -- or
1 Cup Apricot Nectar
Melt butter and mix with corn oil. Let stand one hour. Mix eggs and stir gently. Add all ingredients one at a time to blender - adding 1 c of milk last. Beat at low speed. Turn off blender and add last 3/4 c milk unbeaten. Stir and enjoy. Keep refrigerated for freshness. Shake and add 1/2 c to your tub. Makes 3 cups - enough for 6 baths.

Foaming Bath Salts
1/2 Cup Unscented Liquid Soap
1 Tablespoon Light Oil
Food Coloring
6 Cups Rock Salt Crystals
Essenial Oils, Such As:
Lavender
Peppermint
Coconut
Bitter Orange
Rose
Mix together soap, oil, and food coloring. Pour mixture over rock salt in a large bowl. Stir continuously until salt crystals are evenly coated. Spread salts out in thin layer on cookie sheet covered with wax paper and allow to air dry. (This can take up to 24 hours) If you would like to scent your bath salts, add a few drops of the essential oils after drying. Put 1/4 cup of the salts (enough for 1 bath) into a small cotton bag--the kind used for sachets and teas--and tie with a bow for a decorative look. Store in an airtight container. Salts should be poured into the bath under running water. Recipe makes enough for 24 baths.


Fruit Gel Masks For Normal To Dry Skin
1 Envelope Gelatin Powder, Unsweetened -- (Knox)
1/2 Cup Apple Juice -- or
1/2 Cup Pear Juice -- or
1/2 Cup Peach Juice -- or
1/2 Cup Raspberry Juice -- * see note
Combine gelatin and fruit juice in clean, ovenproof glass container. Heat gently to dissolve gelatin completely. (Microwave on high for 45 seconds to 1 minute, or heat in a pan on the stove.) Place mixture in refrigerator and cool until almost set, about 30 minutes. Spread a thin layer of the gel mixture over your face and allow to dry. Peel mask off and rinse skin thoroughly with cool water.
NOTES : * choose any one of the above fruit juices.

Herb Facial
4 Tablespoons Chamomile Flowers
2 Cups Distilled Water
Bring flowers and water to boil, remove from heat. Cover to use with towel as a steamer. Steam face for 5 to 10 minutes. Splash face with cool water to close pores.


Herb Soap Balls
1/4 Cup Boiling water
5 Drops related essential oil
1 Tablespoon Pulverized Herbs -- * see note
2 Cups Shredded Ivory Or Castille Soap
Plastic wrap
Pour boiling water over herbs. Add 5 to 6 drops oil. Steep 15 minutes.Reheat til bubbly and pour over soap. Mix well with hands and let stand 15 minutes. Mix again and divide into 3 or 6 parts, rolling each into a ball. Place on plastic wrap and dry for 3 days.
NOTES : * Chamomile, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, sage, thyme or a combination of any or all of the above.

1 Drop essential oil
1 Cup Oatmeal
Mix oatmeal, herbs and oil and fill bath bags with mixture. Oatmeal is used because it is a natural skin softener and cleanser
STIMULATING BATHS: basil, bay, calendula, citronella, fennel horseradish roots, lavender, lemon verbena, lovage root, marjoram, mint, nettle, pine needles, queen of the meadow, sage, rosemary, savory,thyme, vetiver root.
SOOTHING BATHS: catnip, chamomile, comfrey, elder, primrose, hyssop, jasmine, juniper berries, lemon balm, linden flowers, marshmallow root, melilot, mullein, passionflower flowers, roses, slippery elm inner bark, tansy, violet, valerian root, vervain (whole plant).

Herbal Face Mask
1 Tablespoon Dry Milk
1 Teaspoon Honey
1/4 Teaspoon One Of The Following:
Chamomile Flowers -- finely chopped
Fennel -- finely chopped
Parsley -- finely chopped
Lemon Grass -- finely chopped
Mint Leaves -- finely chopped
Combine with whisk or in blender on low speed 2 or 3 minutes or until creamy. Apply to the face and throat, it will form a mask as it dries. Leave on 5 minutes, then rinse with cool water.


Herbal Hair Rinse
1 Pint Boiling Water
1 Tablespoon Vinegar
1 Cup Dried Herbs Such As:
Calendula
Lavender
Chamomile
Sage -- * see note
Lemon Grass -- * see note
Pour boiling water over 1 cup of dried herbs. Let steep for about 30 minutes. Strain and add 1 tablespoon vinegar. Pour rinse over hair and leave in.
NOTES : *Sage: boil water and pour over sage in a cast iron pot...sage will darken hair.* Lemon-grass will add blonde highlights to hair.


Herbal Mouthwash
Strong Peppermint Tea
Equal Portions Of:
Boiling Water
Mint
Anise
Rosemary
Or
Chew On Parsley
Combine equal portions of boiling water, mint, anise and rosemary. Let steep until cool. Strain and store in airtight container. Store in refrigerator.
